All About Your Breast Implants
Let’s talk about the differences in breast implants! When you’re considering breast implants, it’s important to know all of your options so you, and your doctor, can make the best decision for your body.
Silicone VS Saline
Silicone implants are made with a silicone gel filling. It’s more commonly heard that silicone implants look and feel more natural. While a saline implant is just what it sounds like, filled with saline. A saline implant is usually put into the breast empty and then filled with saline. When consulting with your doctor, it’s important to learn which implant will most likely fit your wants and needs, along with the risks of each implant.
Will my implants be placed above the muscle or below?
There are several factors that help determine the placement of the implant.
Placement of above the muscle causes the implants to move less naturally, but usually allows for a shorter recovery time, which varies per patient. In addition, mammogram readings can be less accurate, and patients can experience a higher chance for capsular contracture.
When implants are placed below the muscle, patients can experience more accurate mammogram readings, a more natural looking appearance, and reduced rate of capsular contracture. A longer recovery time is usual for placement below the muscle.
Textured VS Smooth
Smooth implants tend to feel softer and more natural, while textured implants have a thicker shell and do not move as naturally as smooth implants. Both have a similar risk of capsular contracture, so assessing the pros and cons with your doctor for your specific body type is important.
